Rylee has a little sister! (updated)

Quick update on my way to pick up Rylee to meet her little sister:

Brynn Marie Ma
born Feb 18th at 9:26am
weighing in at 7 lbs, 3 oz

Some camera phone pics are up on Facebook. I’ll post more pictures from the real camera tonight or tomorrow.

[Update 7:54pm]

To recap all of the Facebook action, Diane started having contractions around 12:30am this morning. She woke me up around 1:30 and told me in no uncertain terms that it was time to go. (For those that are keeping track, this would be our third total childbirth-related hospital trip for the two kids, all three of which have occurred after we have already gone to bed.)

So we both grab quick showers and head on out. (Grandma Bobbi is at the house to take Rylee to school.) We get to the hospital just before 3am, where we are placed in delivery room #2, which is same room that we were in the night before and also the same room that Rylee was born in in 2007.

At this point, timing gets a little fuzzy for me cuz I didn’t wear a watch. Epidural goes in around 4am, doc breaks the water around 6:30am, grandparents start arriving by 8am, they get kicked out by 9am, and Brynn arrives at 9:26am.

Time to Rest and Wait….

Yesterday I had my regularly scheduled 39th week  OB appointment.  It was pretty much the typical appointment until I was told that I was going to be taken out of work.  Yay!!!!  I’ve been rather uncomfortable for a few weeks now so this was fine with me.

Now I’m supposed to hang out here at home and rest and wait for things to progress.  I’m currently 2+cm dilated and 80% effaced.  Big deal really.  Squirt hasn’t moved down into position yet so it may be a while till we get to the maternity floor of the hospital.

The doctor I saw yesterday is my fave and the one who delivered Rylee.  She’s a lot of fun and I really hope she gets to deliver Squirt too.  She’s going to be at the hospital today and next week on Friday and then Sunday.  So if I want her to do the honor then I need to get things moving quickly or else settle in to wait another week.

I’m pretty sure you can guess when I’d like to see her again.

Full Moon

Tonight there is going to be a full moon.  Rylee and I saw a huge moon on the way to daycare this morning too.

UPDATE: Turns out that moon we saw this morning WAS the full one.  That explains the pains I felt last night!

I am thrilled about the full moon as I’m hoping it works it’s magic and puts me into labor!

I did some research online and found out a few things about the relationship of a full moon and pregnant mothers going into labor.

The theory is that the moon’s gravitational pull effects the amniotic fluid in much the same way as it effects the water in the sea, rivers and even the water that’s otherwise found in our bodies.

As a woman’s body prepares for natural childbirth, the amniotic sac becomes distended so the point where it will easily burst if put under pressure. Under normal circumstances, the pressure of labor contractions bursts the sac. During a full moon, the pressure caused by the moon’s effect on the water inside the sac can cause the same things to happen, but without the accompanying contractions.

I’d take labor and delivery without contractions!

38 Weeks

These days when people ask how I am my pat response is “Still pregnant!”  And why not, I’m only 38 weeks I should be, right?  But what I’ve discovered, personally and from speaking with others, is that if you have one baby who is early you really want to experience that again.

Last night I had to get up to pee, as I do a few times every night, and I had a horrible time getting out of bed.  I was trying to roll/flop over to get the momentum going to get out of bed and it was not working out too well.  It resulted in some pain in my belly and therefore some groans from me.  After about two minutes I was finally up and out of bed.  When I got back into bed Bill said something.  Due to wearing earplugs I had to remove one and ask him what he’d said.  He said, “Are you having contractions?”  I told him no, that I just can’t get out of bed anymore.  He rolled over and started snoring again.  Oh well, at least he asked.

But this….this is an example of why I’m just ready to be done being pregnant.  I want to be able to roll over instead of flop over in bed.  I want to be able to sleep on my stomach again.  Just don’t tell my chiropractor though.

Superbowl Plans?

I can tell you right now what my plans are for Superbowl Sunday……

I plan to meet Squirt.  That’s right.  I could care less about the game this year.  I am anything but a Steelers fan and the Cardinals beat our beloved Eagles so really, what’s the point?  The last few years the commercials haven’t been that entertaining.

So I decided that this year I’m going to shake things up and have a baby instead.

No, I do not have a C-section planned.  Really, what doctor would ever do that on the day of the Big Game?

On the way into work this morning I had a chat with Squirt.  I told her that I was officially giving her an eviction notice.  As of Sunday she has to find a new place to hang out.  I told her that her nursery is ready and waiting for her.  That her big sister Rylee can’t wait to hold her and that her father and I just want to see her pretty face.

Her response?  She kicked me in the ribs.
